A Day at the Foundry
Last Friday, as one of our regular CPD (continuing professional development) events, a group from the office visited the J & JW Longbottom foundry in Holmfirth.
Longbottom’s supply cast iron gutters, downpipes, manhole covers etc made in the traditional way. If a wonderful cast iron hopper head on a church gets broken, it doesn’t have to be replaced with a cheap plastics alternative. The original design will almost certainly be available in the J & JW catalogue. And if it isn’t, they can probably customise one of their standard patterns to give you exactly what you want.
Impressive as that is, seeing the casting process first hand reaches another level entirely. The photographs can only give you a flavour of the experience. Thanks to everyone at the foundry for one of the best CPD events we’ve had.
